COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina’s governor said he is seeking an exemption from the Trump administration’s offshore drilling expansion. Gov. Henry McMaster told reporters Wednesday that the risks associated with drilling are too great a threat to South Carolina’s lush coastline, around which much of the state’s $20 billion tourism industry is based.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford is ready to get married again. Nearly eight years after divorcing then-Gov. Mark Sanford, who had publicly admitted an affair with a woman in Argentina, Jenny Sanford posted a picture Tuesday of herself with her fiance on Instagram with the caption “…Yes!” Jenny Sanford told The Post and Courier of Charleston she plans to marry investment banker Andy McKay this spring.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a deputy coroner in South Carolina drove up to a house and shot a litter control officer and a woman before killing himself. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says 62-year-old Leonard Bradley fired at litter officer Levi Brown and a woman as they spoke Tuesday in Hopkins. The sheriff says Brown was hit in the arm and finger and that his bulletproof vest stopped one shot. Lott says the woman locked herself in a nearby home and wasn’t hurt.

LADSON, S.C. (AP) – A middle school teacher in South Carolina has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 12-year-old student. Twenty-seven-year-old Allison Leigh Chilton of Manning was arrested Tuesday after the student’s father said he thought the teacher was involved in an inappropriate relationship with his daughter. The teacher has been suspended from her job.
