A man who was believed to be an Uber driver by an unsuspecting woman has been charged with kidnapping her, according to the Columbia Police Department.
CPD charged Andre Montel Bouknight in connection with the April 20, 2018 incident.
According to CPD, the victim believed Bouknight, who was driving a black Dodge Charger, was driving for Uber. The driver, CPD investigators said, fooled the victim further and told her that he was working for the ridesharing company.
But that’s when things went sound, investigators said. According to the victim, she told Bouknight several times where she wanted to be dropped off, but he did not comply and instead drove her to various places around town.
The victim, according to police, became afraid and contacted friends for help on her cell phone. After friends got in touch with police, an officer located Bouknight’s car at the 900 block of Assembly Street and pulled him over.
CPD is also charging Bouknight with possession of cocaine, open container, and driving under suspension.
He was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and released on $25,000 bond.
