COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A committee of South Carolina lawmakers has returned to the Statehouse to finalize their proposed $8 billion spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Members of the House and Senate held a joint committee meeting Tuesday, only a few days after the General Assembly adjourned their 2018 regular session.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A retired member of the Marine Corps and Medal of Honor recipient has been given South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. 78-year-old retired Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston of Mount Pleasant received the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. Henry McMaster on Tuesday at the Statehouse.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and a group of fellow governors in the U.S. are backing President Donald Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. McMaster and six other governors wrote to Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Berit Reiss-Andersen this week, citing Trump’s “transformative efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina’s governor is recognizing military spouses by proclaiming the month of May as Military Spouse Appreciation month. Gov. Henry McMaster read the proclamation at Statehouse on Tuesday, surrounded by military personnel and spouses of deployed service members. McMaster said it was a pleasure and honor to announce the special day in honor of the spouses.
