MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach police are searching for a suspect after a deadly shooting Wednesday night on the U.S. 17 Bypass, right in front of Captain George’s restaurant.
According to Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard, the victim has been identified as 27-year-old Ryan Rasheed Bryant of Columbus County, North Carolina.
According to a news release from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers performed CPR at the crime scene in an effort to save his life.
Neighbors said Bryant lived at Canterbury Village. The shooting happened less than a half a mile down the street, and they said right after the incident, the entire area was filled with police cars.
Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, witnesses said they saw Bryant lying in the street on U.S. 17 while police performed CPR. He was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center, where he later died.
Myrtle Beach Police Capt. Joey Crosby said an officer working an off-duty detail heard the gunshots and immediately reported it to police.
Officers said they’re now investigating and using the real-time crime unit to see if city cameras caught the shooting. There is currently no word on a suspect.
According to those who live at Canterbury Village, dozens of officers surrounded the complex Wednesday night and waited for a warrant to search a home.
