Myrtle Beach selected as one of the top destinations in America for tasting local food, survey says

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A recent survey from selected Myrtle Beach as one of the top cities in the United States for tasting local foods.

New York City, New Orleans, San Francisco and Las Vegas were the other top cities, the results showed.

The travel site gathered data from over 50,000 global travelers, with 51 percent of Americans saying they pick a destination for its great food or drink. Half of American travelers said are likely to seek out local street food markets, while 52 percent say they are looking to be more adventurous with the type of cuisine they eat while traveling. The survey results also revealed that 61 percent of American travelers will try to eat more local food this year.

A report from CNBC noted that visitors to Myrtle Beach “can find an array of seafood restaurants with just-caught fish and fresh-shucked oysters. Seek out raw bars (like Rockefellers), barbecue joints (like Carolina Roadhouse with its famous “fall-off-the-bone” ribs), pancake houses and casual spots (like Peaches Corner, a family-owned diner that opened in 1937, the year before Myrtle Beach was actually incorporated as a city).”
