Woman charged with arson following fire at Loris home

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A woman has been charged with arson following a fire at a Loris home on June 2.

Online records show Wendy Lee Roy, 52, was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Monday.

According to an Horry County Police Department incident report, officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of Highway 348 where crews with Horry County Fire Rescue told police the fire at the house appeared to be suspicious. A man on scene said he left the home with two others as they were helping the victim move out. When he returned, he noticed what he thought was fog coming from the detached garage. The “fog” then began to turn from a whitish color to black smoke, the report says.

Police say after the fire was extinguished, an investigator ran his dog through the garage and received an indication of an accelerant which may have been used to start the blaze. The product was then seized by police for further analysis.

Roy was released from the detention center Tuesday on $10,000 bond.
