MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Basketball is JeSheon Cooper’s life.
“I put a lot of time in to be great every day.” It’s an athletic journey that almost never began.
“My best friend’s dad was my YMCA coach, and he really just talked me into it because at first, I was a band geek,” she says. “I didn’t even play any type of sports, but he saw that I was taller than everybody and just pushed me to be great.”
“She actually had a contract in France,” agent Joe Dinda says. “Unfortunately with the way the business works, it fell through so we worked out a deal for her to come here (to the Combine). She has everything that’s needed. She just needs to get that opportunity.”
Gil Sela, a coach and general manager from Israel, is looking for players.
“You try to find some shooting guards – the ones who know how to create their own shots so there’s a lot of players like that here and I need to check on them.”
Romania is linked to have heavy interest with Cooper. but regardless of where Cooper signs, she’s just grateful for a chance to fulfill a dream.
“I never knew that I would be able to and now that I’m really doing it and I’m actually here going through the experience, it’s just mind-blowing honestly,” she says.”
Now it’s a business for these ladies. With 10 to 15 players projected to make the next level of tryouts, at least 50 players will have to put their hoop dreams on hold. Meanwhile, day 3 and the final day of tryouts will be Friday morning starting at 8 a.m.
