Billy Blanks brings Tae Bo workout to Pawleys Island

PAWELYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) — Billy Blanks, the fitness guru and creator of the popular workout series Tae Bo is teaching his total body fitness program in the Grand Strand Saturday.

After meeting with Billy in person you would not think that he is in his 60’s and that it’s been 45 years since he created Tae Bo.

All these years later he is still invested in changing people’s lives.

Blanks combined martial arts, kickboxing and dance to create one of the most popular fitness workouts of the 1990’s, selling over 1.5 million VHS tapes in his first year.

Nearly five decades later he is still traveling the world teaching all generations about Tae Bo and how to live a healthier and happier life.

The 90-minute workout consisted of trainers, fitness enthusiasts and newcomers.

While Blanks has had an illustrious career in Hollywood and in the fitness world he said there’s no better feeling than teaching his workout.

“It’s fun, everywhere I go around the world I’ve been to 105 countries teaching people,” said Blanks.

The first step to a healthier lifestyle is always the toughest and Billy continues to inspire more people to not just make a change in their lives but others as well.

“I had open heart surgery six years ago, I’ve been training with Billy since the early 2000’s and because I was working out with him I was able to come back and become an instructor within about four months after my surgery,” said Deon Gibson.

And for anyone looking to take that first step, Billy offered these words of encouragement to take back your life today.

“Keep up the work and don’t give up, remember get encouraged, don’t get discouraged,” said Blanks.

If you missed out on Saturday mornings workout you still have another chance to work out with Billy on Sunday, August 5, 2018.

The work out starts at 10:30 a.m. at Tideland Health in Pawleys Island and tickets to participate are $30.
