The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect is in custody after leading them on a chase with who they believe to be a kidnapping victim inside the car.
Deputies said they received a 911 call around 10 p.m. Saturday from a driver near the intersection of Hudson and Pelham roads who said they saw a man in a black Mazda Protege hitting a female passenger.
The caller stayed on the phone with dispatch and followed the car, which deputies said turned onto Haywood Road where the woman jumped out near I-385.
Deputies tried to stop the car on Laurens Road and a chase began. It ended when deputies said the driver, 34-year-old Dennis A. Tucker, crashed the car into a tree on Duval Road near Parkins Mill.
Tucker was taken into custody, and faces a charge of third-degree domestic violence from the sheriff’s office.
He also faces charges of failing to stop for police, driving with unlawful alcoholic concentration, resisting arrest, and kidnapping.
They said a male passenger in the vehicle who is believed to a kidnapping victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He is cooperating with investigators.
