Horry County limits public safety calls; North Myrtle Beach halts emergency responses

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County’s emergency responses will be “slow or limited” due to conditions from Hurricane Florence.

“Conditions have reached a point where it is too dangerous for public safety crews to respond to emergency calls. Responses will be slow or limited,” a post on the county police department’s Facebook page stated.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue has also halted emergency responses as Hurricane Florence impacts the Grand Strand.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, responses will resume once storm conditions allow for personnel to do them safely.

Additionally, North Myrtle Beach officials announced the 911 emergency system is experiencing delays. Residents should also call (843) 280-5511 for medical and life-threatening emergencies until further notice.

For non-emergency questions or needs, call the emergency operation center’s non emergency public lines at (843) 280-5531 or (843) 281-3769.
