Closing of U.S. 501 Bypass in Conway is ‘imminent’

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation has told Conway officials that the total closure of the U.S. 501 Bypass is “imminent” as crews work on their flood prevention project, according to a Facebook post on the city’s website.

In that same post, it was announced that Main Street in Conway between Boundary Street and Mill Pond Road has been closed due to the flooding of Crabtree Canal.

Earlier in the day Sunday, Horry County officials announced that traffic on U.S. 501 was being diverted to S.C. 22 for those heading toward the beach. The portion of the highway in Galivants Ferry was shut down due to the Reedy Creek breaking the dam, with traffic being diverted to Highway 41 to U.S. 378 for those traveling from the beach.
