Mickey Fortin of Gray Court said he was out for a walk around 10:20 a.m. when he came across the bodies of four dead chihuahuas. Fortin said it appeared the dogs had been shot in the head.

According to Fortin, he found four more smaller dead dogs down the road along with two large breed dogs. Four more dogs were discovered later.

Deputies confirmed a total of 15 dead dogs were found in the area of Stoddard Mill Road, Ben Taylor Road, Bryson Ford Road and Sweetbriar Road. Investigators said it appears some of the dogs were shot to death.

The sheriff said none of the dogs were microchipped.

Fortin said he believes the incident is a cry for help. Deputies said the investigation is active and ongoing.
